Jeremy
was born in Devon, England and drew and
painted from an early age. He has always
watched birds and animals so this led quite
naturally to including them into his paintings.
He has had no formal tuition and says that
for him, “art is more instinctual and it
has been a process full of life and discovery”.
In
1972, his family immigrated to South Africa
and he continued his schooling there, drawing
and painting in his spare time. He exhibited
mainly in group shows and in 1985, took
part in an exhibition with a few of South
Africa's best known artists.
In
1986 Jeremy moved to Hong Kong with the
intention of painting full time. He painted
mostly landscapes during that time and in
1987, exhibited with two other artists at
Gallery Colbert in Buckinghamshire, England.
Illustrations of birds and animals went
to local books and magazines. He has had
4 exhibitions in Hong Kong - 2 group and
2 solo exhibitions.
Moving
to Gaithersburg, MD with his wife in 1993,
Jeremy started exhibiting in the USA and
has taken part in many regional and national
exhibitions. He has been juried into 2 consecutive
Birds in Art exhibitions at the Leigh Yawkey
Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI. As an
elected member of the Society of Animal
Artists (SAA), he has been included in their
juried art exhibitions and has won a number
of awards.
His
illustrations have gone to the Hong Kong
Bird Watching Society, the Beidaihe Bird
Society (China), the American Birding Association
(ABA) and Bird Watchers Digest as well as
many other books and publications. Recent
books featuring his artwork are 'The Best
of Wildlife Painting'- North Light Books,
'The Owls of North America' - The Heliconia
Press and more recently, 'Easy Solutions:
Color Mixing - Watercolor' - Quarry Books.
Jeremy
spends as much time as he can in the field
watching, drawing and painting landscapes,
birds and animals. He is currently represented
by 4 galleries: McBride Gallery in Annapolis,
MD; Berkley Gallery in Warrenton, VA; Broadway
Gallery in Alexandria, VA, and OPEN GALLERY
in Northport, NY.
